NC Synod Campaign

Total to Date in Pledges and Gifts - $673,695 (As of 7/30/2018)

The Opening Doors: Answering the Spirit’s Call campaign is our earnest desire to help fill a pastoral vacuum within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) created by the decrease in the number of Master of Divinity (MDiv). The supply and demand issue for ELCA clergy is associated with debt accrued before as well as the cost of attending seminary.

The ELCA Research and Evaluation Department (March 2016) projects that by 2019 there will be 800 fewer pastors serving congregations within the ELCA. In 2005, 9,105 clergy were serving congregations. In 2015, 6,713 were serving congregations, a decline of 25%, and the numbers continue to diminish.

With the success of this campaign, we propose raising $1.5 million for general tuition and housing costs, $250,000 for immediate tuition and housing costs, and $250,000 for Cross Cultural and Study Aboard opportunities. The result is that tuition and housing costs would be offset and cross cultural and study abroad courses could be offered that are not presently funded by regular tuition.

Your gift will have a lasting impact for the years to come by enabling students to attend the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary with a greatly reduced financial burden. I invite you to join hands with donors all across the south in making this campaign the success that will make LTSS a shining start in the ELCA.
