Transfer of Credit

Lenoir-Rhyne values the work students accomplish at all institutions and thrives to honor that work through the evaluation process.

Our goal is to make your transfer process as clear and seamless as possible. We offer generous transfer credit policies and will work closely with you to ensure that the academic progress you’ve made at Limestone or St. Andrews is recognized and applied toward your degree at LR. Our dedicated team will carefully review your transcripts and provide you with a personalized credit evaluation so you know exactly where you stand.

We understand that each student’s academic journey is unique, and we take the time to assess each course for its alignment with our curriculum. Whether you’re pursuing a specific major or exploring new possibilities, we’re here to support your goals and help you stay on track to graduate on time. At LR, we believe the work you’ve already done matters—and we’re committed to honoring that every step of the way.

  • Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis in partnership with the university registrar, assistant provost of undergraduate education, and Dean of the degree granting college.

A general education equivalency guide has already been created in preparation for welcoming Limestone students to Lenoir-Rhyne. In addition, nursing faculty at both institutions have created a Nursing Crosswalk to ensure minimal disruption for nursing students who transfer from Limestone to Lenoir-Rhyne. We are eager to create a similar crosswalk between any program.

Students who have less than 30 semester hours of major course work will be able to complete their degree and graduate from LR as we will waive the minimum residency requirements.

    Evaluation of Course Credit
An official evaluation of credit, completed by the Registrar’s Office, will follow admission to Lenoir-Rhyne University. Courses taken at a regionally accredited college or university in which a grade of C/2.0 or better has been earned may be transferred to Lenoir-Rhyne for credit. Course requirements may be fulfilled, but no credit will be awarded, with a grade of D/1.0 in the first of sequential course offerings, provided the student earned a grade of C/2.0 or higher in the following course and the first course is a prerequisite for the following course.

During the evaluation of transcripts from other institutions, special scrutiny will be given to credits earned more than 10 years preceding the applicant’s transfer. The university reserves the right to reject such credit when, in the judgment of the university registrar and the appropriate program faculty, the coverage and content of the particular course(s) has undergone substantive change.

After a student has transferred, the grade point average is computed only on work attempted at Lenoir-Rhyne. Any transfer student may elect to transfer no credits from former institutions and take the total number of hours required for graduation at Lenoir-Rhyne University. A student who takes the total number of hours required for graduation at Lenoir-Rhyne University may elect to delete all credits from former institutions at any time prior to graduation.

Earned Associate Degrees & General Education Requirements
Students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a North Carolina Community College may transfer the AA/AS degree to Lenoir-Rhyne to be used in place of the university’s General Education requirements.

Students who have earned an Associate of Arts/Science degree outside of North Carolina are not subject to the agreement outlined above. A course-by-course evaluation will be conducted by the Registrar’s Office to determine if the AA/AS degree satisfies university’s General Education and which, if any, courses will remain as part of the student’s curriculum at Lenoir-Rhyne.

  • Graduate Students

Graduate students will be evaluated on a case by case basis in partnership with the university registrar, dean of The Graduate School, and dean of the degree granting college.

    • Transfer credit will be granted for graduate students on a case-by-case basis following a review.
    • A minimum grade of B/3.0, or equivalent, must have been earned for each course transferred.
    • Transfer credit typically must have been completed within the 10-year period preceding the completion of the program of study (student’s graduation date). Graduate programs may have more or less restricted time limits. Program coordinators will review transfer of credit requests and make decisions accordingly.
