CLOSED - Systems Administrator
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
The Systems Administrator is a member of the IT team reporting to the CIO and supports the rapid growth and high-availability physical and virtual infrastructure while following industry best practices for security and compliance. They will demonstrate experience maintaining servers, supporting back-up services, administering permission controls and troubleshooting system issues. They will be driven to explore next technology advances in virtualized and on-premises data centers, computing and storage solutions, VMware, Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, physical and logical networks, security and desktop and endpoint management.
Essential Job Duties
- Install software and utilities for modifications and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments.
- Resolve incident reports as needed for data/network center support.
- Maintain system security and user accounts.
- Install, configure, and test devices or servers with supporting hardware, software, and networking components.
- Provide routine consultation and general of IT support within the department.
- Ensure data/media recovery by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
- Participate in testing, debugging, configuring, and documenting operating systems and software.
- Monitor, tune and troubleshoot the operating system.
- Act as liaison with vendors of software and application products, especially with regard to problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Install, configure, and maintain network devices, cabling, and peripherals as necessary.
- Manage aspects of the servers, SSL certificate environment, server virtualization environment, single sign-on authentication environment, and email systems as required.
- Manage the DR network site at Columbia, South Carolina campus and the mechanisms needed for failing over campus and data center networks in the event of an outage at our primary data center in Hickory, North Carolina.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High school diploma with appropriate certifications, training and experience; Associate's or Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of related experience, certifications and training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with one or more operating systems.
- Experience installing various hardware platforms and strong skills with most operating system commands/utilities.
- Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts.
- Experience with programming or scripting in any applicable language.
- Ability to manage shared resources and perform simple tasks.
- Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management.
- Ability to work well independently and as a team member.
- Ability to explain applications and operating system fundamentals to others.

Physical Abilities
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Frequently sitting.
- Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds or other, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh greater than 40 pounds.
Work Environment
- Work onsite at Hickory, North Carolina campus.
- May need to work extended hours and/or weekends (remote or on campus).
- General office conditions.
- May be exposed to moderate noise level.
