Graduate Assistant, Disability Services


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

This graduate assistant position in the Disability Services Office supports test coordination, accommodations, and educational programming for students with disabilities. The role is ideal for graduate students who are interested in accessibility, support services, and educational equity. This position is offered in exchange for tuition remission (one position available).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating a testing schedule across various academic programs and departments.
  • Support the implementation of testing accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Proctor written and computer-based exams for multiple campus programs.
  • Assist with the development and ordering of alternative texts for students with disabilities.
  • Support data collection and analysis for the Disability Services Office.
  • Help plan and deliver workshops and training sessions for students with disabilities, as well as faculty and staff.
  • Contribute to disability-related educational outreach, including social media and campus awareness efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a graduate student at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
    • Enrollment in the Master of Arts in Counseling program preferred, but all applicants will be considered.
  • Availability during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) for test proctoring.
  • Occasional evening or Saturday hours may be required; flexibility in scheduling is essential.   
  • Able to work 21–23 hours per week.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students with varying needs.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
