Assistant Professor of Computer Science, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The Lenoir-Rhyne University College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics seeks applications for a full-time, assistant professor appointment (or as determined by Provost). Appointment begins August 2025.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

We invite applications for a full-time position in Computer Science to begin August 18, 2025. Based on credentials, the position may be offered as either tenure-track or non-tenure-track. Candidates with a terminal degree in Computer Science or a closely related field conferred prior to the start date will be considered for a tenure-track appointment. Candidates with a master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field may be considered for a non-tenure-track appointment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 24 credit hours across the fall and spring semesters, with the possibility of additional summer teaching assignments for supplemental compensation. Teaching responsibilities may include a range of undergraduate courses such as information technology, computer programming, computer networks, database management and other classes as assigned by the dean. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student learning and success by providing timely, constructive feedback and employing effective teaching strategies that support diverse learning styles.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Evidence of college-level teaching experience
  • Experience developing and delivering courses using innovative pedagogies
  • Familiarity with various instructional modalities, including in-person and asynchronous formats
  • Collegiality and a commitment to contributing to institutional service and shared governance
