Creative Writing Minor
Our creative writing minor hones writing skills, cultivates creativity and encourages self-expression.
Strong writing skills are essential to success in the workplace, and a minor in creative writing provides you with greater literacy and stronger analytical skills.
Throughout this course of study, you will examine various works in poetry and fiction, analyze and discuss the genres, and develop your own creative techniques and strategies.
You will learn the art of critique and revision through writing workshops and other courses in the minor, where you will share your work with peers and hone your skills.
The Creative Writing minor helps students to develop their craft in small, workshop-based courses taught by published writers. Publication opportunities include Cantos literary magazine. The minor is excellent preparation for students who seek advanced degrees in writing, as well as for those who wish to pursue careers in writing and the creative industries. A minor in Creative Writing requires 18 hours consisting of the following:

Minor Requirements (9 hours)
- ENG 233 - Reading World Literature(with an emphasis on contemporary literature.)
- ENG 236 - Reading Like a Writer
- ENG 281 - Introduction to Creative Writing
Minor Electives (9 hours)- ENG 345 - Writing Fiction
- ENG 346 - Writing Poetry
- ENG 348 - Literary Magazine
- ENG 446 - Studies in Creative Writing (May be repeated for credit under different instructors)
- THR 270 - Script Writing
