• University Operations Update

Return to Normal Operations - Tuesday, Feb. 3

Lenoir-Rhyne will return to normal, in-person operations beginning Tuesday, Feb. 3, at all campus locations — Hickory, Asheville and Columbia.

    • Road conditions: We recognize that road conditions may remain hazardous in some areas and that travel may still be challenging.
    • Students: Those unable to travel safely to campus should communicate directly with their instructors to discuss absences.
    • Faculty and staff: Those unable to travel safely to campus should communicate directly with their supervisor to discuss appropriate arrangements.
    • Your safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your continued communication and flexibility as we transition back to normal operations.
    • The university community is also invited to join President McGee for a Welcome Back Warm-Up on Tuesday from 8:30–9:30 a.m. in the Cromer Center on the Hickory campus. Stop by to enjoy donuts, coffee and hot chocolate as we reconnect and welcome one another back to campus.

Broaden Your Perspective

Shuford Center for International Education

There are many co-curricular activities that enrich the Lenoir-Rhyne education. By participating in study abroad or interacting with international students on our campus, you will expand your knowledge and engage other cultures in ways that broaden your perspective.

Preparing You for the World

The Shuford Center for International Education initiates and supports events and programs that contribute to a global education and fosters intercultural skills building for U.S. and international students.

We offer robust opportunities for our international students to integrate into life on campus and we encourage all LR students to explore how intercultural learning can support effective relationships across cultural difference in day to day interactions, in local communities and in the larger world.  We offer students the opportunity to live in a globally focused residential learning community called the Global Village and to serve as peer mentors to exchange students through our I-Pal program.

Not only do we facilitate the study abroad process, but we offer students opportunities to maximize what you learn from your experience, inviting reflection that supports self-learning, discernment and a comfort level relating newly developed transferrable skills to future employers. A few of the events and programs include:

  • International Student Meet & Greet
  • Developing Cultural Superpowers
  • Leveraging Your Study Abroad Experience
  • Health and Wellness Abroad
  • Budgeting for Your Study Abroad Experience

The highlight of my LR experience was traveling to Ireland with LR A Capella. Visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Dublin, Belfast and Galway were some of the best experiences of my life.
