Temporary Administrative Assistant - College of Business and Economics & College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Position Summary
The administrative assistant provides executive support for the Deans of the College of Business and Economics and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, supports the Colleges’ daily operations, serves as the Colleges’ primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, and provides administrative support to the academic programs within the Colleges (CBE: Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Management, Marketing, Project Management, Leadership, Business Administration; CHSS: Philosophy, Religious Studies, History, Modern Languages, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and Criminal Justice) and their public-facing activities. Experience with office operations, event planning, customer service, and social media is strongly preferred. This position is expected to be temporary for a 13-week period from the middle of February through the end of May 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support for the College Deans with responsibility for calendar management, travel arrangements, project activities, information retrieval, reporting, and complex administrative matters
- Manages overall office administration for the Colleges
- Plans, coordinates, and executes logistics for Colleges’ events and projects
- Serves as primary liaison between the Colleges and other University departments and external stakeholders
- Promotes a professional and inclusive work environment
- Oversees the facilities operations of Mauney Hall
- Performs other duties as assigned by the College Deans

Education and Experience
- High School diploma; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred

A minimum of three years’ experience directly related to the skills, duties, and responsibilities listed is preferred

Experience in a higher education setting is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment
- Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.
- Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
Work Schedule
- Standard office hours M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with some flexibility possible
- Schedule is subject to change based on University need, scheduled courses, and University growth
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
