Frequently Asked Questions
You probably have a lot of questions about what it's like to live on campus, how the housing process works and what your home away from home will be like.
We know moving to campus can be stressful, and we are here to help. Here are answers to questions we hear most often.
When will I find out what my room assignment is and who my roommate will be?
Housing confirmations will be sent to all students in early July. The information you receive will include your room assignment, as well as the name, home address and phone number of your roommate. Once you receive your housing confirmation, it is a good idea to contact your roommate to start to get to know him/her and to plan what to bring with you when you move.
What can I do if I want to live with a specific person?
You may request a certain roommate using the housing information form. Only mutual, written requests can be honored.
What if I don’t get along with my roommate?
The first few weeks of school are important to building a good roommate relationship, and open communication is the key. If you are unhappy, contact the staff in your building. If absolutely necessary roommate changes will be considered after the first four weeks of school.
What furniture is provided?
Each room has a bed, desk, chair, closet, mirror and dresser for each occupant.
Will my room be cleaned?
Housekeeping cleans common areas such as lounges and hallway bathrooms. You are responsible for cleaning your own room; however, LR offers a room cleaning service for an additional fee.
Does the school have insurance for the property I bring to school?
No. Please be sure your parents check their homeowner's insurance to have your property adequately covered.
Can I live off-campus?
If you have lived on campus for three years, attend part-time, are married, have served in the military, are independent of parents for financial purposes or above the age of 22, you are permitted to live off-campus. Also, if you live with your parents within a 25-mile radius you do not have to live on campus.
Can I have a car on campus?
Yes, parking is available. All students, faculty, staff of LR who operate a motor vehicle on the campus are required to register a vehicle with the Office of Public Safety. Yearly parking registration costs $40. Parking an unregistered vehicle on campus will result in a fine.
When are quiet hours?
Quiet hour guidelines are established to respect the rights of others and to maintain an appropriate atmosphere for academic pursuits. Quiet hours are from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m., Sunday through Thursday (this includes Friday morning to 9 a.m.) and midnight to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. During exam periods special rules are in effect. Your RA can provide you with more information.
What is the visitation policy?
You may have adult visitors in your rooms during the following hours:
- Freshman Residence Halls
Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to midnight
Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. - Upperclassman Residence Halls
Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to midnight
Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.
Upper-class Residence Areas - Open Visitation
Cohabitation by members of either the same or opposite sex is not permitted in any of the residence halls. A guest staying over an extended period of time and/or giving the impression that s/he is living with the host will be deemed a cohabitant. Cohabitation is defined as a guest staying longer than three consecutive nights and/or staying for three or fewer consecutive nights on two or more occasions during the same week. Failure to comply with this policy may result in sanctions and may jeopardize access to campus housing.
Where do I get my mail?
We offer postal services at the campus post office, located on the lower level of the Cromer Center.
May I decorate my room?
Yes. We want your time living on campus to be comfortable and encourage you to make yourself at home. See our helpful list of what to bring with you so you can add your personal flair to your room.
Of course, we do have some rules to ensure the safety of our residents.
A good rule of thumb is that you may decorate in any way that does not permanently alter your room. For instance, you are not permitted to dismantle any LR furniture, attach anything permanently to the walls, ceiling or doors; paint walls or baseboards, trim furnishings, doors or anything metal; or install wallpaper, borders or contact paper.
Additionally, please keep the following rules in mind.
- Large cloth objects (fishnet, parachutes, flags, etc.) and posters are not to be hung from or across the ceiling
- Double-sided foam mounting tape is prohibited
- A fine may be assessed if a room contains an extreme number of nail holes, tape scars or cracked plaster
- Wood paneling, bookshelves, etc. may not be attached to room walls
- Small string white lights that are non-heat producing may be used in a room or around an individual doorway but not in the hallway
- Room doors may be decorated but room numbers must remain visible
- Exit lights, fire alarms and fire extinguishers must always remain visible
- Fire doors must remain free of paper and any obstruction
- Nothing may be hung from ceiling pipes, electrical conduits or outside of windows
- No live or previously live greenery except regular house plants
- Decorations must not interfere with emergency exits
