Lenoir-Rhyne Promise

Making Access to a College Degree More Affordable

The Lenoir-Rhyne Promise (LR Promise) is a new Lenoir-Rhyne University program focused on making a college degree more affordable, while recognizing the hard work of high-performing students. The LR Promise rewards any North Carolina resident who is a first-year undergraduate student with a 3.5 or higher high school GPA with a financial aid package worth at least 50 percent of the cost of tuition. No student or parent loans are packaged as part of the LR Promise.

The LR Promise also is open to transfer undergraduate students with more than 30 earned credit hours from an accredited North Carolina community college and a 3.5 GPA.

The LR Promise will be awarded for students enrolling in fall 2020 and does not apply to currently enrolled students. However, financial aid staff are always happy to meet with students to review their financial aid package and make adjustments as appropriate.

Eligibility

  • Full-time North Carolina resident (at time of admittance)
  • High school weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher for first-year students entering beginning in fall 2020
  • Transfer students entering beginning in fall 2020 must have a college GPA of 3.5 or higher and minimum of 30 attempted college credit hours at a North Carolina community college
  • Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). No separate application form is required. All students who meet the qualifications will automatically be part of the program.

Financial Aid Package

The total financial aid package for each student will vary and may be comprised of institutional, federal, and state grants and scholarships. If at least half the cost of tuition is not met, then additional funds will be added to the financial aid package to total half the cost of tuition. Any external scholarships awarded to students will not be counted toward half the cost of tuition. No loans are packaged as part of the LR Promise.

Tuition for the 2019-20 academic year is $37,400 for a full-time undergraduate student, meaning a student who qualifies for the LR Promise would receive financial aid of at least $18,700. Tuition will be set for the 2020-21 academic year later this fall.

Room and board for the 2019-20 academic year is an additional $12,510, which includes unlimited meals in the on-campus cafeteria and free laundry services. Fees, books, supplies and personal expenses are not covered in the discount tuition.

Annual Renewal

LR Promise is renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) at the initial amount if a student remains in good standing with the university.

Exclusions

At this time, LR Promise is only available to full-time undergraduate first-year and transfer students from North Carolina community colleges who meet the requirements for the program. LR Promise is not available to graduate students.
