Alumni Association Awards


Every year, the Alumni Association honors deserving alumni with its awards. The award presentation takes place at the Bears for Life Luncheon held during Alumni Weekend.

Clarence L. Pugh Distinguished Alumnus/a Award
Presented annually to an alumnus/a who has demonstrated great prominence in his or her career field while adhering to the principles of education and Christian character upon which Lenoir-Rhyne University was founded. In 2001, the award was renamed for Clarence L. Pugh ’62 in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Opal L. Moretz Alumni Service Awards
Given in memory of Opal Ledford Moretz ’65, former Lenoir-Rhyne dean of students and volunteer director of church relations, and recognize significant acts of service to the community, the university and the Alumni Association. One award for each category is presented every year.

Rising Star Young Alumnus/a Award
Commissioned by the Lenoir-Rhyne University Alumni Association board of directors in 2000 to recognize outstanding achievement and potential of young alumni.
