Visiting Professor, Human Anatomy and Physiology
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Faculty Position: One-semester, nine-month, non-tenure track position with the possibility of extension for additional years. Appointment begins January 2027.
Position Summary
The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Lenoir-Rhyne University invites applications for a Visiting Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology to teach introductory, freshman-level courses in human anatomy and physiology. This position is intended for a student-centered educator who is committed to providing undergraduate students with a strong foundation in the structure and function of the human body.
This position is a five-month teaching contract involving coursework for undergraduate students in the spring semester, with the potential for additional teaching assignments. A minimum of a master’s degree in biology or a closely related field is required, but a terminal degree is preferred. The degree must be awarded prior to the start date of this position, Jan. 4, 2026. Teaching will include courses in anatomy and physiology, along with evaluating student success and achievement and providing timely student feedback within those courses.”
Evidence of exemplary college teaching experience and the ability to develop and deliver courses both in person and online is highly preferred. Candidates must be able to conduct their assigned courses of instruction in the best manner possible to achieve student learning, which includes presenting ideas in ways that are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and demonstrate sensitivity to a diverse student population. Successful candidates will display a commitment and capacity for teaching excellence, student mentorship, collaborative work, scholarly and professional engagement and a dedication to strong institution-wide citizenship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach freshman-level Human Anatomy and Physiology courses, including lecture and laboratory sections as assigned.
- Present foundational concepts in human anatomy and physiology.
- Develop and assess examinations, laboratory assignments, quizzes, projects and other student learning activities.
- Maintain accurate course records and communicate course expectations, learning outcomes, and student progress clearly.
- Provide appropriate academic support through office hours and individual student consultations.
- Maintain appropriate laboratory safety standards and ensure compliance with university and departmental policies.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in anatomy, physiology, biology, human biology, biomedical sciences or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to teach introductory undergraduate anatomy and physiology courses.
Teaching Expectations
- Translate complex anatomical and physiological concepts into accessible material for beginning college students.

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics provides current and practical knowledge and skills that prepares students for a successful STEM career. The college offers eleven undergraduate degrees: biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science (including a cyber-security track), engineering physics (system integration & automation and traditional focuses), environmental science and policy, information technology, mathematics, medical studies, pre-engineering, and pre-medical science.
