Graduate Assistant, Career and Professional Development


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The graduate assistant plays an integral role in providing inclusive, caring and comprehensive career and professional support to students and alumni.

Primary Duties and Tasks

  • Assist with management of the Career Closet, including inventory management and outreach programming, primarily during evening hours.
  • Leverage technology for accurate data collection, utilizing Handshake (career management system) and other tools such as Canvas and Microsoft Teams.
  • Communicate effectively through social media and in person.
  • Provide confidential career coaching through mock interviews and resume reviews.
  • Present workshops to student, alumni and employer audiences.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student workers.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current or admitted graduate student on the Hickory campus.
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week in-person
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in career development, human resources, social work or recruiting and employer relations.
