Graduate Assistant, Academic Support Services


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The primary responsibility of the Graduate Assistant (GA) for Academic Support Services will be to assist BEAR Central in supporting current students with academic support to ensure their academic success. The GA will assist with oversight of academic support, service assistance, and staff management. Additionally, the GA will be responsible for data management and overall assistance with certification requirements. The GA will support all student success initiatives as it pertains to the needs of BEAR Central.

Primary Duties and Tasks

  • Work 21-25 hours a week during daytime hours in BEAR Central.
  • Serve as a point of reception for students and visitors to the second floor of the library. At times, they will cover the front desk if needed.
  • Assist with the peer tutoring program, including the tutor pairing process, tracking data related to these pairings, and assisting with SI and/or group tutoring sessions.
  • Assist with the recruitment, staffing, and coordination of all academic support programs.
  • Participates as an academic coach for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Become knowledgeable about the TracCloud platform and assist students and tutors in scheduling, reporting, etc.
  • Assist with the student worker hiring process, training, and data upkeep.
  • Participate in co-curricular workshops.
  • Assist with the payroll process for student staff, including the reconciliation of time sheets.
  • Assist with CRLA requirements by conducting tutor and academic coach training.
  • Use social media to share academic support information with our student body and facilitate communication among all parties involved with academic support services and opportunities.
  • Work at promotional events on campus as needed and complete basic administrative tasks, including copying, filing and data entry.
  • Be flexible to work daytime and evening hours. Hours are to be determined based on the needs of the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to a graduate program at Lenoir-Rhyne.
  • CRLA Academic Coach certification (acquired in fall semester)
