Director of Creative and Digital Media, Athletics


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, this position works closely with the Athletic External Operations unit on day-to-day operations. The position is responsible for the planning, development and administration of the athletics department's creative and digital media strategy, including staffing and production of in-house videoboard displays, support for digital and social media strategy, and development of mobile and video content across communication channels. The position also creates, manages and maintains dynamic content that strategically enhances the Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics brand across external communications.

Supervision

  • Supervise and provide oversight of student interns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of digital content for LR Athletics by guiding the team in developing, creating, designing and executing content and strategy while supporting the overall social media strategy.
  • Develop creative content that supports revenue generation through fan engagement, brand awareness, advertising and public relations strategies in collaboration with the marketing department.
  • Recruit and supervise student interns to execute the media strategy and tell the story of each team and the department.
  • Manage the creative development and deployment of digital, social, mobile and video content for communications and branding initiatives surrounding LR athletics teams and events. This content will include but not be limited to hype videos, highlight videos, interviews and specialty segments.
  • Collaborate with Athletics Marketing, Communications and Game Operations staff to coordinate efforts that strengthen the athletics department brand and increase fan engagement.
  • Develop partnerships across campus with the Campus Marketing & Communications office, student groups and faculty to increase campus engagement and student internship and staffing opportunities.
  • Assist with sports communications coverage based on department needs and individual experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Proficiency with camera, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Proficiency with video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro. CC
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, coaches and student-athletes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare and NCAA compliance.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience working in a collegiate or professional sports digital media department preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Schedule

  • This position requires travel and variable work hours, including nights and weekends.
