Assistant Professor, Applied Behavior Analysis
Location: Hickory or Asheville, North Carolina
Faculty Position: Full-time, nine-month, tenure track position
The College of Education & Human Services at Lenoir-Rhyne University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Applied Behavior Analysis beginning August 2026. This nine-month appointment supports the University’s Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program, which is delivered fully online. The successful candidate will serve as Program Coordinator and will provide leadership in program development, curriculum oversight, accreditation preparation, and student mentorship.
This position is housed within the College of Education & Human Services and requires the faculty member to maintain a regular on-campus presence at either the Hickory or Asheville campus, while delivering graduate instruction in a fully online learning environment.
All faculty positions at Lenoir-Rhyne University carry a 24-credit annual teaching load, with the possibility of reassigned time for administrative responsibilities related to program coordination.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student mentorship, scholarly and professional engagement, and active participation in campus service and citizenship. This position is contingent upon final budgetary approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach graduate-level courses in the M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis program delivered in an online modality.
- Serve as Program Coordinator for the M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis program.
- Provide leadership in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement aligned with professional standards in applied behavior analysis.
- Support efforts to maintain and pursue curriculum verification or recognition processes through relevant professional organizations (e.g., the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) or Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI)).
- Maintain regular in-person office hours on the Hickory or Asheville campus.
- Contribute to program, college, and university service and leadership.
- Collaborate with LR’s Graduate Admissions Office to support student recruitment and enrollment initiatives.
- Develop and sustain professional partnerships with clinical agencies and organizations providing applied behavior analytic services.
- Engage in scholarly and professional activities consistent with faculty expectations.

Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a closely related field.
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential in good standing.
- Demonstrated ability to teach graduate courses in online learning environments.
- Ability to maintain regular on-campus presence at either the Hickory or Asheville campus.
- Commitment to maintaining regular office hours and fulfilling service and leadership responsibilities on site.
- For fall 2026 hire eligibility, official confirmation of successful dissertation defense must be submitted by July 31, 2026 (if ABD).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching applied behavior analysis courses at the university level.
- Clinical experience providing applied behavior analytic services in educational, clinical, or community settings.
- Experience teaching in fully online or hybrid instructional formats.
- Familiarity with or experience supporting ABAI Verified Course Sequence (VCS) or BACB curriculum verification processes.
- Experience with graduate program coordination, accreditation preparation, or curriculum development.
- Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement in the field of applied behavior analysis.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive, student-centered learning environment.
