Graduate Assistant, Study Hall and Student-Athlete Support


Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The primary responsibility of the Graduate Assistant (GA) for Study Hall/Student-Athlete Support is to assist BEAR Central and Athletics in supporting current student-athletes and promoting their academic success. The GA maintains regular hours in BEAR Central. Additionally, the GA is responsible for overseeing the student-athlete study hall program. The GA supports student success initiatives as they pertain to the needs of BEAR Central and Athletics.

Primary Duties and Tasks

  • Work 21-25 hours a week with a combination of daytime and primarily evening hours in BEAR Central.
  • Coordinate with the assistant AD for Academic Success on study hall operations and student support.
  • Oversee the study hall program for the fall and spring semesters.
  • Serve as an academic coach for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Assist front desk staff and address job-related questions, including scheduling conflicts.
  • Schedule and meet with current students to provide academic coaching, including time management, study skills and goal setting.
  • Assist with all BEAR Central evening academic support events for current students.
  • Develop working knowledge of the TracCloud platform and assist students and tutors with scheduling and reporting.
  • Assist with student success initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to a graduate program at Lenoir-Rhyne.
  • CRLA Academic Coach certification (acquired in fall semester)

  • Experience with database management.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Scheduling flexibility, including working Sunday hours to support current study hall needs.
