    Remote Instruction Continues  – Thursday-Friday, Jan. 29-30

    Remote instruction will continue on Thursday and Friday for Hickory and Asheville locations.

    This decision reflects our ongoing priority to support the safety of our community as weather conditions evolve across the region. By making a decision about Friday now, we aim to provide clarity and allow everyone to plan accordingly.

Advance your writing and reading skills by studying literature from around the world in small classes.

At LR, we will give you a well-balanced education as you learn how to read and write in-depth content in a variety of disciplines from professional, award-winning professors.

As you earn your minor in English, you will study works in poetry and fiction, explore grammatical convention and linguistics, and even have the opportunity to participate in a writing workshop with our visiting writer-in-residency, a published author.

The ability to read and interpret text and effectively communicate thoughts and information is a skill that is essential to success. A minor in English is applicable to many majors and serves as great preparation for advanced degrees in a variety of fields, including law, medicine, education and more.

A minor in English is designed for students who wish to embark on an in-depth exploration of a wide range of literary and non-literary texts. Courses help students develop their own voices in addition to critical thinking, reading and writing skills. A minor in English requires 18 hours consisting of the following:
