Shameika Stokes is an assistant professor and undergraduate program coordinator of human and community services at Lenoir-Rhyne University. In addition, she works as a mental health clinician providing psychotherapy and mental health assessments. 

Stokes has a rich and diverse background in social work and mental health practice as well as education. An educator, clinician and social worker, Stokes ascribes most to the title and charge of an advocate. She has worked in child welfare, school social work, mental health managed care and community-based mental health. Her research interests are Black incarceration, mass incarceration and disparities in rural poverty and mental health. In addition, she is an unapologetic advocate for economic and social justice for vulnerable, marginalized and oppressed individuals and communities.
