Julie Santiago joined Lenoir-Rhyne as director of institutional research in December 2022. As part of her role, she is at the helm of interpreting and analyzing data related to all aspects of university life.

Santiago serves as a data resource for campus offices and empowers campus leadership to use analytics and evidence to make decisions and improvements. Her role as an institutional researcher ensures the strategies that affect everything from majors to meal plans are closely aligned with the needs of students, faculty, staff and the community.

Santiago most recently served as director of institutional research and planning for the University of Mount Olive. She also worked as an assistant professor of information technology at Macon State University — now Middle Georgia State University — for almost 10 years.

Before joining higher education, Santiago was a programmer analyst, working on government systems like USAJobs. She also ran the software testing center for the United States Office of Personnel Management in Macon, Georgia during preparation for Y2K, an interesting time in the world of information technology.

An outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking and mountain biking, Santiago and her family have enjoyed the beauty of western North Carolina since moving here in 2013.
