Julie Covington

In her role as director of the dietetic internship program, Julie Covington draws upon her wide range of career experiences working as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in public health, clinical and educational settings. Throughout her career, her work has focused on the vital role of nutrition for both individual and community health and wellness. Covington joined the Lenoir-Rhyne faculty in 2013 and teaches nutrition concepts in the Master of Public Health program in addition to her work with the dietetic internship.

Covington is an active member and Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2015 she was recognized by the North Carolina Dietetic Association as Outstanding Dietetics Educator of the Year. She is a former president of both the Western and Charlotte District Dietetic Associations in North Carolina and former chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, Covington has served on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council and IMPACT Childhood Obesity boards.
