Location: Hickory, North Carolina
The primary responsibility of the Graduate Assistant (GA) for Student Success will be to assist the assistant director of BEAR Central in supporting current students to ensure their academic success. This includes academic coaching, programming/events and communications for all current students. The GA will maintain open hours in the Graduate Student Center and the Learning Commons. Additionally, the GA will be responsible for developing and maintaining a robust social media presence for all areas of BEAR Central. The GA will support all student success needs as pertain to the BEAR Central student success unit.
Key Assignments
- Work 20 hours a week with a combination of daytime and evening hours in the Graduate Student Center and in the Learning Commons.
- Schedule and meet with current students to offer academic coaching, including time management, study skills and goal setting.
- Generate and manage an engaging social media plan and content.
- Create graphics for email and print (Knowledge of Canva, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Assist with all BEAR Central events for current students.
- Assist in calling, emailing or texting campaigns for current students to disseminate information related to student success, registration and all student support areas.
- Assist in any student success initiatives for all students as needed.
- Support all needs as pertain to BEAR Central as assigned.

- Ability to work collaboratively with others in a small office environment
- Self-reliant and proactive; ability to work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated experience with social media and multimedia creativity
- Experience with database management
- Proficient in MS Office products
- Scheduling flexibility, including working occasional weekend hours to support current student needs
