Adjunct Faculty Position: Human Economics of Sustainability
2022

We are seeking an instructor for Spring 2022 to teach an Economics of Sustainability course that meets three hours per week and will meet in a hybrid format. This course is for a graduate program and will involve students who may have not taken an undergraduate Economics class. The students are in an interdisciplinary graduate program and their undergraduate majors include a wide range of backgrounds including art, business, biology, environmental studies, international studies, sociology, psychology, and others. The class will likely include between 10 and 15 total students.

The class meets in the evenings (most likely Tuesday evening, depending on instructor availability) between 6 and 9 p.m. Some class material will be delivered on-line through our Canvas system. We also utilize Canvas for some students who are not able to be in class in person. The course description follows:

  • ECO 530  Economics of Sustainability: This course focuses on the use of economic principles to understand why many current practices are not sustainable and how economic theory can be used to move institutions toward sustainability. The divergence between neo-classical economics and ecological economics is explored across a variety of applications. One critique examines the substitution of different forms of capital and the implications of bio-physical limits of resources. Students apply concepts from the course in projects and translate economic theory and language to explain various issues and analyze public policy. Students also explore ideas related to local economies. Three credits.

Requirements for the position include a Ph.D. in economics or a related field (with an emphasis on economics) and teaching experience.

Qualified individuals can apply by the following means: send cover letter, curriculum vita, and professional references with four names by e-mail to Dr. Keith McDade at keith.mcdade@lr.edu and Dr. Shaun Williams at shaun.williams@lr.edu.
