VOLLEYBALL AWARDED FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS

The American Volleyball Coaches Association named the women’s volleyball team as one of its 2017-18 Team Academic Award winners in July. The team was one of 128 NCAA Division II programs that earned the AVCA Team Academic Award.

Twenty members of the team carried a grade point average of 3.3 or higher and made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The team’s average GPA was 3.75 for the 2017-18 year. Four women managed a 4.0 for the entire academic year: Bailey Cloninger (Hickory, North Carolina), Ashley Markland (Conover, North Carolina), Emily Steele (Greenville, North Carolina), and Ada Thompson (Huntersville, North Carolina.).

Nine South Atlantic Conference institutions earned the award, which was initiated in the 1992-1993 academic year and honors volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale.
