PROJECT WILL IMPROVE DOWNTOWN STREETS

The Hickory City Council recently approved plans to renovate Union Square and enhance the streetscapes in downtown.

The Hickory City Council recently approved plans to renovate Union Square and enhance the streetscapes in downtown. The improvements will allow the downtown area to better coordinate with City Walk plans.

The City Walk will be developed along Main Avenue from Lenoir-Rhyne University through downtown Hickory to Ninth Street Northwest. It will connect LR, to downtown and provide easy access for shops, services and offices in the area. The city hopes that a vibrant central business district will help it continue to attract employers and make it appealing for workers.

Construction on the City Walk is slated for the first quarter of 2019.
