HARTSELL QUALIFIES AS USGA WOMEN'S AMATEUR

Abbey Hartsell, a senior on the Lenoir-Rhyne women's golf team, qualified as a USGA Women’s Amateur after competing in the United States Golf Association Qualifying tournament on July 6, 2018, at Monroe Country Club in Monroe, North Carolina. 

Hartsell qualified with a 2-under-par 70 on a course that covered 6,333 yards. The Hickory, North Carolina, native is the first amateur qualifier in LR program history. 

“I am very happy to have qualified for the USGA Women's Amateur Championship,” she said. “It's a big step in my golf career to play with the best amateurs in the country.”

During the USGA Women’s Amateur Championship, Hartsell shot 77-74 but missed the match play cut.
