LR’s Atlanta alumni network sorted and packed 13,000 pounds of food, enough to feed 10,000 families, at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. This was the third service project completed by the Atlanta alumni network in the past year.

JOY GEMMER ’17 was named director of youth and family ministries at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boone, North Carolina.

The Bears finished 3-7 overall and 2-5 in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play this year after once again fielding a young squad. Three of LR’s losses were by eight points or less. 

Nelson Brown – All-SAC First Team, rushed for 1071 yards on the season 
Kyle Dugger – All-SAC Second Team 
Jonathan Nolan – College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III Team 
Jalen Soto – All-SAC Second Team 
Sherrod Williams – All-SAC Second Team

The Bears, relying on a young squad, finished 10-16 on the year and 6-14 in SAC. 

Taylor Prall – SAC Freshman of the Year, All-SAC Freshman Team 
Brooke Redmond – All-SAC Second Team, led the team on kills with 281

The LR men’s and women’s golf teams started the fall season strong. The men’s team finished third at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate in Morganton, North Carolina. The women’s team won the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, North Carolina, and tied for second at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.

The LR women’s cross country team, under first-year mentor Danny Williamson, finished sixth overall at the SAC Championship.

The LR men’s cross country team finished fifth overall at the SAC Championship at Southside Park in Newton, North Carolina. The Bears are coached by first-year coach Danny Williamson.

The LR women’s soccer team had another strong season, despite its fifth-place finish in the league standings. LR put together its 10th consecutive winning season, finishing with a record of 11-5-2 overall and a 6-3-1 mark in SAC. Four Bears earned 2017 All-SAC honors. 

Abbie Brown – All-SAC First Team, All-Southeast Region Second Team 
Abigael McGarel – All-SAC First Team, All-Southeast Region Third Team 
Helen Ramsey – All-SAC Second Team, All-Southeast Region Third Team 
Christina Shimshock – All-SAC First Team 
Claire Neibergall – All-South Region Scholar

The LR men’s soccer team had another outstanding season, finishing 10-4-3 on the year and 6-2-2 in SAC while tying for second overall in the league standings. The Bears also earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament for the second straight season. 

Victor Cascon – All-SAC First Team, All- Southeast Region Second Team 
Sercan Cihan – All-SAC First Team, All- Southeast Region Second Team 
Ignacio de Goya – All-SAC First Team, SAC Player of the Year, All-Southeast Region First Team, Honorable Mention All-American, led the team with 12 goals scored and 27 total points 
Zach King – All-SAC Second Team 
Jens Roessler – Academic All-District, CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team 
Florian Simon – All-SAC First Team, All- Southeast Region Second Team 
Emil Tansinda – All-SAC Second Team
