Lenoir-Rhyne University's Playmakers will conclude its 2016-17 season with the second annual production of Making Scenes: An Evening of Student-Produced Work. The performance is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, April 27 – 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Belk Centrum.
The production features six short, one-act plays written, directed, and produced by LRU Theatre students during this semester's Script Writing class. Plays include Victoria by senior, Katherine Minton; The Packaged Cult by sophomore, Matt Josten; Tommy's Got a Gun by junior, Jordan Makant; Painful Memories and Starting Over by senior, Carla Robinson; and The Evil Inside by senior, Victoria Squailia.
Junior and senior theatre majors who took part in this semester's Directing II class will be directing the short plays. Student directors include Justin Chapman, Abbey Hayes, Tylan James, Milissia Koncelik, Heather Osterer, and Victoria Squailia. Students from the theatre program are also responsible for designing the scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound for the production. Cast members for each play feature LRU students as well as actors from the greater Hickory community.
"The idea behind Making Scenes is to showcase an evening of original plays written, directed, designed, and performed by our theatre students," said Josh Yoder, LRU Playmakers' Artistic Director and Assistant Professor of Theatre. "This exciting project gives our students the opportunity to build a theatre production from the ground up."
Admission to Making Scenes is free and open to the public. The production is intended for a mature audience due to adult language and content.
