LR to hold candlelight vigil in memory of those lost to COVID-19

Lenoir-Rhyne University is participating in a nationwide effort to commemorate the American lives lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a candlelight vigil and tolling of the bells on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m.

Luminaries representing lives lost will be placed along the walkway of the quad of the Hickory campus of LR, and many of the outdoor lights on campus will be turned on in participation.

Interim campus pastor the Rev. Dr. Christy Lohr Sapp will give a prayer at the labyrinth and St. Andrews Lutheran Church, which is participating in the ceremony, will perform a five-minute tolling of the bells.

The quad will be cleared of vehicles prior to the ceremony. Participants are encouraged to park at University Christian High School and walk over to the quad. University safety requirements such as wearing a mask and social distancing remain in effect during the ceremony.
