Marketing and Communications receives two creative awards

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Office of Marketing and Communications received two awards—one for excellence and one of honorable mention—in creative design in the 49th Annual Design Competition of the University and College Designers Association, a national contest that honors the best in design work promoting educational institutions.

Lenoir-Rhyne has been recognized with a UCDA Award of Excellence in the video category and a UCDA Honorable Mention in the magazine–cover design category.

The video, developed by Mikeala Skelton, LR's digital media producer, featured student testimonials and conveyed a message of appreciation to donors. The video debuted early in 2019 at an event honoring scholarship donors and the students who receive the scholarships. The video also will be used in a fundraising campaign this fall.

The spring 2019 cover image for "Profile," LR's alumni magazine, was designed by Anna Reeves, art director. It features creative typography, a matte, soft-touch coating, a spot-glass finish, and was designed to support an article on legacies of LR.

"We have long known that our talented and hard-working staff in the Office of Marketing and Communications is producing top-notch work," said Cat Niekro, vice president for institutional advancement "Receiving this prestigious recognition from the UCDA Design Competition is exciting validation of their work. We are proud to be included among the winners."

The judges of this year's UCDA Design Competition evaluated nearly 1,100 entries from national and international institutions, awarding 234 awards – six Gold Awards, 11 Silver Awards, and 215 Awards of Excellence. The UCDA presented awards and exhibited the work of winners at the UCDA Design Conference, held Oct. 12-15, in Portland, Oregon.
