Bishop Lowell G. Almen receives Bachman Award

LTSS presented its newly appointed chair of the LTSS Advisory Council, Bishop Lowell G. Almen, with the John Bachman Award for his exemplary leadership to the church. Almen is the founding secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, an offi ce which he served from 1987 to 2007. The award is named for the Rev. Dr. John Bachman in honor of his many life accomplishments. Bachman served as pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charleston, South Carolina, for 56 years. He is recognized as a pioneer in southern Lutheranism, and was a key leader in establishing LTSS.
