Band Trip to DC

This year, students in the Spirit of LR Marching Band will have a unique opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., to perform on a national stage. On Saturday, April 4, the band will march down Constitution Avenue as a part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in the nation’s capital. This is an exceptional opportunity to perform alongside some of the best bands in the country and represent LR and the state of North Carolina at the highest level.

Many of the students in the band cannot afford the trip and will be unable to participate. While the University is dedicating some funds to help offset the expenses, we need your help. Please consider a donation to support these students. Make your gift today or call Kelly Knetsche at 828.328.7361 to learn more.

About the Trip

Band director Neil Underwood is planning a robust educational and cultural experience for LR students. Not only will they perform in the parade, but they also will have the opportunity to visit some of DC’s historical sites and tour the capital. According to senior music major Emily Huffman, performing in the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade is a pivotal moment for LR, “Coming from a smaller school, it’ll be a good way to get our name out there and promote the Spirit of LR Marching Band.”

Spirit of LR's Impact

For the last four years, the Spirit of LR Marching Band has brought life, energy and enthusiasm to the LR campus. From getting the crowds excited at pep rallies, to revitalizing the atmosphere at football games or providing heralding trumpets for graduation, the marching band has bolstered school spirit at Lenoir-Rhyne. Please help us share the joy, power and pageantry of the Spirit of LR Marching Band with a televised national audience. Make your gift today and help the LR Bears shine in Washington, D.C.
