Mark Wimberley


Mark Wimberley is the assistant coach for volleyball at Lenoir-Rhyne since 2020. He was the assistant coach at Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program for nine years before coming to LR.

After coaching at the club level with success and playing in recreational leagues for many years, Wimberley brings a winning attitude and a wealth of experience. 

On top of his assistant duties, Wimberley served as the Red Hawks recruiting coordinator. His first-class of recruits at CVCC went undefeated their first two seasons. Building on those stellar seasons, the Red Hawks did not lose a conference game in eight years.

In 2018, Wimberley was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year for two-year colleges. Wimberley earned the honor after helping the Red Hawks achieve several accolades during the 2018 season, including three National Players of the Week, four All-Region players, the 2018 Region Player of the Year, a freshman First-Team All-American and a ninth-place finish at National Junior College Athletic Association Division II tournament in Charleston, West Virginia.

Wimberley received the award from U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team Head Coach and three-time gold medalist Karch Kiraly at the 2018 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as part of the 2018 AVCA Convention.

Wimberley comes from a diverse background. Previously, he was employed by the North Carolina Forest Service, retiring after 28 years of service.
