Ginger Barfield

The Rev. Dr. Ginger Barfield has been with the seminary since 2003, initially teaching Greek and directing the Baptist Studies program. Her current courses include New Testament electives, Old Testament, Baptist studies and courses in practical ministry. Barfield was the seminary’s academic dean from 2008 to 2012.

Her primary teaching interest is Introduction to Theological Thinking for first-semester students. She encourages faithful engagement with contemporary public issues by employing critical thinking, scripture, theology and church tradition. 

Barfield is an enthusiastic advocate for racial justice and gun reform. She is a regular speaker at churches and community organizations on these issues.

In her free time, she enjoys golf, spectator sports and urban Columbia living with her beagle Bogey.
