Angelene Fortune is the assistant vice president for human resources and has been part of the Lenoir-Rhyne community since August 2021. Fortune has extensive hands-on experience leading HR initiatives, including policy design, performance management, training and development, employee engagement and much more.
A veteran human resources professional with nearly 15 years of experience, Fortune previously served as the senior strategic human resource business partner for HCA Healthcare, formerly known as Mission Health System, in western North Carolina, before being promoted to the regional human resource manager.
She has also worked as the senior human resource business partner for Charter Communications and the chief human resource officer at A Caring Alternative, a for-profit organization based out of Morganton that provides care for those with mental health issues and developmental disabilities.
Prior to that, she served as the education manager for a nonprofit organization in Orlando, Florida, where she managed 1,300 student volunteers through the country's largest service-learning partnership with the University of Central Florida and Rollins College.
Fortune is a long-standing member of the National Society of Human Resource Management and has served as a member of the Catawba Valley SHRM and the Western North Carolina HR Association. She was selected by the North Carolina SHRM State Council as the recipient of the Elizabeth Clay Smith Humanitarian Award in 2015. This award honors one human resource professional annually who promotes well-being, respect and dignity within the community while striving to make a lasting difference and to encourage others to do the same both in their personal lives and in the practice of human resources.
