For over 16 years, the name Dr. Wayne B. Powell has been synonymous with leadership and integrity at Lenoir-Rhyne University. As the University celebrates its 125th anniversary, so will it reflect on the distinguished career of its president, who today announced his retirement at the close of the 2015-16 academic year.
Charles Snipes, who served alongside Dr. Powell as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for seven years, reflected on the announcement. “Dr. Powell is a great leader and visionary whose contributions and accomplishments have exceeded all expectations. Under his leadership LR has flourished, standing as a beacon of pride in our community, and helping to shape the lives of students across its campuses.”
