Young alumna supports next generation of lawyers through new scholarship

When Anna Magann ’04 was deciding on what college to attend, she knew Lenoir-Rhyne was the choice for her.

“My dad is a Lutheran pastor, so I knew about the school from growing up hearing about it from others in the congregation,” she shared. “The small community at LR was a big draw for me as well.”

Thinking back on her time as a management student, she recalls the family-like atmosphere she found not only with her classmates but among her professors who showed a vested interest in students. “The Kings (Dale and Wayne) are standouts for me as they provided so much guidance, leadership and encouragement,” Magann shared.

Now an attorney with McGowan, Hood, Felder & Phillips, LLC in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Magann is following the Kings’ example by investing in the next generation of LR Bears through the Anna Scott Magann Scholarship.

The scholarship endowment will provide need-based financial aid to undergraduate students with a preference given to historically underrepresented students who desire to pursue a law degree or a post-graduate education.

“I hope this scholarship encourages someone who wouldn’t have had the opportunities I have had to consider law school and see that a door is open for them,” said Magann.

When asked why she felt now was the right time to establish a scholarship, she shared that it just felt right. “Not only am I financially able at this time, but my family has always instilled an emphasis on giving – so this is something I wanted to do for years and now is the time,” she explained.

For other young alumni considering establishing a scholarship, Magann says go for it. “Don’t contemplate. Just do it! This is a great way to not only give back but also to make such a difference in a student’s life.”
