The next speaker scheduled as part of the Lenoir-Rhyne University's 2017 Alex Lee Leadership Lecture Series is Scott Millar, President of the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation. He will present on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. in the Fintel Room (213) of the McCrorie Center.
Millar has served the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation since 1993 and as president since 1998. He has strived to bring new businesses to Catawba County while helping existing businesses to expand to continue to create more employment opportunities. In addition to his work for the county, he serves on the Charlotte Regional Partnership's board of directors. He is also past president of the North Carolina Economic Developer's Association and past member of the NC Economic Development Board. In 2010, he was recognized as NC Economic Developer of the Year. Millar has been published in the primary journal for the economic development industry, The Economic Development Review, and has presented at national economic development conferences on best practices in the use of geographical information systems.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Millar received the professional designation of Certified Economic and Community Developer in 1996. Prior to accepting his current position, he was employed with the NC Department of Commerce and spent five years in the advertising field.
The Alex Lee Leadership Lecture Series offers a unique opportunity to attend MBA level lectures and to learn from influential professionals both locally and nationally.The series is designed to help participants understand the dynamics of leadership and identify their own administrative traits and capabilities.
