LTSS professor and students attend New Baptist Covenant Summit

Dr. Ginger Barfield and Baptist students James Benson, Robert Gibson, and Rick McLeod attended the New Baptist Covenant Summit in Atlanta last week.

The Summit brings together Baptists from several traditions and backgrounds (Progressive National, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and American Baptist) to partner in communities in actions leading to justice and transformation.

Former President Jimmy Carter was the impetus behind the first Summit in 2008. Most of the work of the organization happens at the local community level through "covenants of action."

The students and Dr. Barfield participated in workshops, small group discussions, and worship. President Carter and The Reverend Traci Blackmon were two of the preachers during the three day event.
