Great Books sessions bring fun and fellowship to LRU

Mon Aug 4 2014

HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Lineberger Center for Cultural and Educational Renewal will host a series of Great Books sessions based upon two exciting reads – Rebecca Skloot’s, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and The Inferno by Dante. Sessions run on Tuesdays, every two weeks, beginning September 2 through October 14, and October 28 through December 9.

Great Books sessions are informal, relaxed meetings designed to bring community members together for fellowship and facilitated discussion. There are no tests, quizzes, or papers.

Skloot, whose book will be the center focus during the first Great Books session, will also be speaking at LRU on October 23 as part of the Visiting Writers Series. Read about “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” at www.rebeccaskloot.com/the-immortal-life.

For the second session, participants will read a true classic of the Western World – Dante’s, Inferno. For an overview of Dante’s poem visit, www.worldofdante.org.
