HICKORY, N.C. — The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears will be playing in the NCAA’s Division II Championship game this Saturday. LR will be sending them off in style on Wednesday morning.
The Bears begin boarding the bus at about 10:30 a.m. at the main gate of the Helen and Leonard Moretz Stadium’s. They’ll hit the road at 11 a.m. The Hickory Police Department will escort the bus with their blue lights flashing as head coach Mike Houston and his team leave Hickory.
The event is free and open to the public. All Lenoir-Rhyne family, friends, supporters and fans are urged to come out to support our hometown university’s team. The festivities will include music, fun and commemorative giveaways.
The Bears went 10-1 in the regular season before winning three games in the championship tournament to earn the right to compete in Florence, Ala. for the title. The last time the Bears had this level of success was in 1962 when the team played for the NAIA championship.
This game has been a long time coming and LR’s football team is determined to make the most of it.
The Bears, fresh on the heels of their third conference title, will face the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in the title game, which will be broadcast live at noon on ESPN 2.LRU News | No Comments
