Mon Dec 16 2013

HICKORY, N.C. — ESPN will be broadcasting live from Moretz Stadium this Saturday at noon as the Bears take on the West Chester University Golden Rams in the semifinal round of the NCAA DII football playoffs.

The Bears’ playoff success has ignited an excitement amongst the City of Hickory, last weekend drawing over 2,500 fans to LR’s campus where the Bears defeated North Alabama 42-39. This weekend fans are expected to travel from across the country to watch the team play for a chance to compete in the National Championship game for the first time since 1962.

Prior to kickoff, Hickory City Council will proclaim Saturday, December 14 as Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears’ Day. LRU alumnus, Class of 1971 and Hickory City Council member Bruce Meisner will present the proclamation at 11 a.m. on the practice football field near the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF) tent, near the back entrance of the stadium. All are welcome to be a part of the celebration.
