HICKORY, N.C. — Opening the seventy-ninth season of bands at Lenoir-Rhyne, the 2013-14 Concert Band will perform on Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the P.E. Monroe Auditorium on campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
Conducted by Daniel W. Kiser, the program will feature Amanda Young performing Georges Adolph Hüe’s “Fantasie for Flute and Wind Ensemble”. A native of Newton, NC, Amanda plans to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Music minor. Amanda studies with Lissie Okopny, who will direct a special guest performance by the LR Flute Ensemble.
Other pieces on the program include “Flötentrio” by László Zempléni, “The Slavonic Dances” by Anton Dvořák (arr. Curnow), “The Dam Busters” by Eric Coats, “Masque” by W. Francis McBeth, “Colossus of Columbia”, by Russell Alexander, Robert Sheldon’s “Metroplex: Three Postcards from Manhattan”, and Ricky Lombardo’s arrangement of “Shenandoah” for flute ensemble.
