The Lenoir-Rhyne University Debate Team came away with another trove of prizes and awards during its most recent tournament at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational.
The Bears went up against fourteen schools ranging from the host school, the University of Kentucky, to Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, and Texas Christian University on Oct. 11 and 12 and came away with their heads held high.
The team of Micah Rufsvold and Charlie McBurney went undefeated in the preliminary debates (4-0) then won two more debates to lose an incredibly close debate in the finals. They took 2nd place in the novice parliamentary debate division.
The team of Rebecca Payne and Jonathan Christian went 2-2 in the preliminary debates and lost a close debate in the quarterfinals in the novice parliamentary division.
The LR team as a whole received the 3rd place sweepstakes award. Sweepstakes is given based on points. LR’s team had the third highest point total out of all 14 schools. Lenoir-Rhyne also had two of the top five speakers in the novice division. Rebecca Payne received the 4th place speaker award and Jonathan Christian was the 2nd place speaker in the division.LRU News | No Comments
