Homecoming Events Set to Honor LRU Alumni

Lenoir-Rhyne University invites friends, family, alumni, and the Hickory community to attend Homecoming 2013, Friday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 5.

Homecoming activities begin on Oct. 4th with the 25th Annual Hanley H. Painter Bear Memorial Golf Tournament at Lake Hickory Country Club. The entry fee is $125 per person and benefits Lenoir-Rhyne athletic scholarships. For more information and to register, please call 828-328-7007.

The 53rd Annual Alumni Association Award Ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed at 7:00 p.m. with the 12th Annual Homecoming PEF/Bears Club Gala. Both of these events will be held at the Lake Hickory Country Club, Viewmont location. To register for the 53rd Annual Alumni Association Award Ceremony RSVP online at or call 828-328-7108. Saturday, Oct. 4th begins with the annual Lenoir-Rhyne Homecoming Parade starting at 10:00 a.m. Gather on Stasavich Place in front of Shuford Gymnasium to watch the parade, featuring student organization floats and the Homecoming court.

The Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in P.E. Monroe Auditorium. This will be followed by a memorial service for LR alum Billy Wells ’51 at 12:30 p.m. in the Cromer Center, Bears’ Lair Atrium.

At 11:30 a.m., the Alumni Association will host a BBQ and other foods event on the practice football field. Children’s activities will also be offered with a hotdog eating contest, train ride, inflatables, face painting, and balloon artist.

The Fifth Annual Corn Hole Tournament will also be held on the practice football field beginning at 12:00 p.m. All alumni are invited to create a team. Space is limited to 32 teams, so respond quickly to 828-328-7108.

At 2:00 p.m. the Bears football team will face off against Brevard College in Moretz Stadium. At halftime, Lenoir-Rhyne honors its newly inducted Sports Hall of Fame members as well as the annual ring ceremony, which recognizes the championship teams from the past year and acknowledges all Bears sports teams. Game tickets can be purchased at the gate.
