HICKORY, N.C. — Registration openings are still available for the upcoming middle school band camp to be held at Lenoir-Rhyne University. The camp is open to students with at least one year of participation in a school band program, through rising ninth grade.
Instruction is designed to reinforce skill development among this age group while enjoying the opportunity to make music in the summer. The camp will run from Monday, July 29 – Friday, August 2. Instruction runs from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Adult supervision will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. to accommodate parent’s work schedules. Jenny Lanier, band director of McDowell high school, will be directing the band for the camp. Prior to her appointment at McDowell High School, she spent seven years at West McDowell Junior High School. During her tenure there the number of students enrolled in the band program doubled. West McDowell’s concert and jazz bands consistently earned Excellent and Superior ratings at state performance adjudications. Ms. Lanier is also a member of the Lenoir Sax Ensemble. Dr. Chris Nigrelli, professor of music at Lenoir-Rhyne University, is the director of the camp.LRU News | No Comments
