CEO of BB&T Next Speaker in Aspects of Leadership Program

Kelly KingHICKORY, N.C. — The Lenoir-Rhyne University Business Council and the Alex Lee Foundation present the next Aspects of Leadership program on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:00 pm in the Fintel Classroom in the McCrorie Building on campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Mr. Kelly King, CEO of BB&T Corp will speak on leadership in the business world.  In light of economic conditions and recent events, this will sure to be a fascinating and timely address.  King serves as Chairman and CEO of BB&T Corporation. He began his career with BB&T by joining BB&T’s Management Development Program in 1972 and has served in many roles, including manager of its Central and Metropolitan regions, Raleigh city executive, Charlotte business services manager, Statesville consumer lending manager, and banking manager for BB&T’s branch network.
In January 2009, King was named a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and served in that capacity until 2011. He has served as chairman of BB&T Corporation since January 2010; president and chief executive officer of BB&T Corporation and chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T since January 2009.

King is credited with leading BB&T to continued profitability and financial stability through the economic downturn beginning in 2008. Under his leadership, BB&T was one of the first institutions to repay TARP funds. His commitment to the company’s vision, mission and values led to a nationally recognized associate volunteer program called The Lighthouse Project.  Most recently, King has been appointed to serve as the Fifth District representative on the Federal Advisory Council by the directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. King’s one-year term begins Jan. 1, 2013.

The next speaker in the Aspects of Leadership series will be Mr. Tom Lundy, Catawba County Manager. On March 6, Lundy will give an address on leadership in the public arena.  Dr. Betty McCain, former Chairman of the N.C. department of Cultural Resources,will speak on leadership in the arts on March 27.
