Lenoir-Rhyne University is pleased to welcome Appalachian State University organist Dr. Joby Bell to perform an eclectic organ recital on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 3:00pm in the Mauney Music Building on the LR campus. This program is free and the public is invited.
Dr. Bell’s concertizing throughout the United States has met with high acclaim, while his performances abroad have been enthusiastically received in Paris, Chartres, London, and throughout southern England, Scotland, Romania, and Hungary. His recital programming demonstrates a varied and interesting repertoire, enhanced by illuminating program notes designed to embrace all audiences.
Dr. Bell has served the American Guild of Organists as a faculty member of Pipe Organ Encounters, as dean of the Houston (Tex.) and Boone (N.C.) chapters, and from 2006-2010 as director of the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance. He garnered Second Prize and the Audience Prize in that same Competition in 2000. Since 2004 he has served on the faculty of the Hayes School of Music at ASU. Previous positions include Associate Director of Music for the Church of St. John the Divine and as Organist for St. Philip Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church, all in Houston.
Sunday’s program will include works by Bonnet, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Bach, Franck, and Dupre.LRU News | No Comments
