GRADUATE HOODING & COMMENCEMENT
All master’s degree graduates will assemble promptly at 6:00 pm in Mauney Music Building. There will be no rehearsal. Graduates should wear appropriate clothing for a significant occasion. Improper dress may cause a graduate to be withdrawn from participation. Cords/pins/medallions will be allowed only if they are symbolic of campus-wide and programmatic academic honors.
PROCESSIONAL: Graduates will form a single line in the Music Building lobby, in alphabetical order by degree programs. Your tassel is to be worn on the left side of your cap and your hood carried over one arm (you will be hooded as part of the ceremony). Follow the Faculty Marshal’s lead to the front of the Auditorium, where you will pass through two rows formed by the faculty. Proceed inside following the Faculty Marshal’s signals. Remain standing once you reach your reserved seats until instructed to sit.
PRESENTATION OF DIPLOMAS: All graduates will be instructed to stand as one. Follow the signals to walk to the stage, carrying your hood. Individually as your name is called, hand your hood to your program’s advisor to place upon you. Upon completion of being hooded, you are invited to come to the microphone to make brief (30 seconds maximum) personal remarks, thanking family members, faculty and staff mentors, etc. Continue across the stage, receive your diploma from the Secretary of the Faculty, shake hands with the President and Board Chair, smile as your professional photo is taken, and return to your seat.
RECESSIONAL: Led by the Faculty Marshal, follow the stage party to exit the Auditorium, front row first. You can pick up your diploma in the Fireside Room in Cromer Center.
RECEPTION: The reception will follow immediately outdoors on the lawn in front of the Auditorium. Rain location: Cromer Center Lobby.
While it is optional, master’s degree graduates are invited and encouraged to robe and participate with the undergraduates in this beautiful liturgical service. All graduates will assemble in the foyer of Mauney Music Building promptly at 1:30 pm, wearing your regalia. The Faculty Marshal will direct you to form two lines, in no particular order.
PROCESSIONAL: Follow the Faculty Marshal to the Auditorium where your two lines will face inward for the faculty to pass through. Proceed inside, single file, following the Faculty Marshal’s signals. Remain standing once you reach your reserved seats until instructed to sit.
RECESSIONAL: Led by the Faculty Marshal, you will follow the stage party and exit the Auditorium single file, front row first.
